My name is James, but you're here because you know me as Project K.
Thank you so much for taking the trouble to get here!
I am, and always have been, a huge fan of pop and dance music. And I have been obsessed with remix culture since I started saving up my pocket money for 12" singles in the mid 80s. In my teenage years, I listened with fascination to how the likes of Shep Pettibone, Trevor Horn and the PWL mixmasters extended and reshaped the hits I'd heard on the radio and seen on Top of the Pops into something altogether more exciting.
Later on, it was the more radical reinterpretations by Brothers in Rhythm, David Morales, Frankie Knuckles, The Freemasons, Paul Oakenfold, Chicane, and the other talented DJs, producers and remixers (the list is endless!) that intrigued and inspired me.
It was inevitable that I would start to produce my own music and remixes. I enrolled in a sound production and studio engineering course and invested (with a very dear friend) in a home set-up so that we could record our own music. It was in between producing music with that friend (we were managed by Tom Watkins [Pet Shop Boys, Bros, East 17] for a while, but that's a whole other story!), that I started messing about with some of my favourite Kylie tracks, purely for my own entertainment, and to make extended versions or remixes where there were none. I put my first few of these remixes onto a CD and labelled the disc "Project K:RMX", simply because it was my Kylie remixes project. Unbeknownst to me, my partner at the time uploaded this CD to some file-sharing sites and labelled each track with the moniker "Project K Remix". And so, accidentally and without design, my remix alter-ego was born!
On this site, you will find news about my current and upcoming remixes as well as a look back at much of my work to date. If you would like me to work on your music, please get in touch. I'd love to hear from you.
